    Polyhives

Hi. With polyhives being significantly more expensive than wooden seconds at the moment, I am wondering if the polyhives would make up that cost difference in producing more honey. I have read that they can produce up to 15% more honey compared to a colony in wood that has similar variables...

If you had to start again..

..what set up would you go for? Or would you go exactly the same? What is your beekeeping set up? I am undecided myself, I'd possibly find a cheap source of Langstroth all mediums

    Increase

I checked through my equipment. I'm looking to increase my polyhives but I need to make the right decision moving forwards. I currently have around 5 Paynes deep boxes. I noticed a paynes deep box has increased to £51. Shocking. I could use some advice on what poly brood boxes I should use...

    Hopelessly queenless

I have just finished inspecting my colony. No, queen, no brood. It was superceded back in July and looks like she was no good. It is my one and only colony that I bought in May to return to beekeeping. Is it worth buying a queen or should I try again in Spring? Simon

    Wormery

Hi all. I like growing plants and vegetables when I'm not bothering bees. I thought about getting a wormery. Does anyone else have one? What do you reckon to them? Cheers Simon

    Gardening

    Selling Honey

I have a customer that wants to buy 10 jars. My usual price is £5 for 12oz or 2 for £9. He wants 10 for £40 making it £4 a jar. Should I be shifting my price? What would you do? Cheers

    Brewing Beer

I have brewed a couple of malt extract kits in the past. Both batches tasted a little medicinal. I boiled the water to remove chlorine and added a campden tablet but it didn’t really effect it. I would like to brew some more soon and I was just wondering if anyone had some advice on how to treat...

    Introducing Queen

Hi. Would you mind taking a look at this video clip I recorded? https://www.dropbox.com/s/2vksc4qsiqmay3h/Video%2002-06-2017%2C%2016%2030%2039.mov?dl=0 I'm a bit of a novice with queen introduction and I'm not 100% sure that they are showing accepting behaviour. I can't see them biting the...

    Web developing

Any members here that are web developers (I don't mean spiders)? I'm interested in getting into this field and could use some advice on what computer languages to learn and how to go about learning them. Happy beekeeping!

    Spiced metheglin

Hi. I've been trying to find a decent recipe for a spiced metheglin. Most of the recipes that come up on google advise you to boil the honey. I don't think they can be written by people that know much about honey as I'd have thought it would destroy the honeys aroma. Has anyone made something...

    What to grow over autumn\winter

Hi. I'm moving to a room in a shared house and I'm looking for ideas for things to grow over autumn/winter for a bit of outside interest. It is just a little paved area that might have some earth, though I'm not certain, so in pots ideally. So far, I've had a look at garlic and asparagus. I...

    Coldsore cream

Hello. I am plagued by cold sores. I get several a year. I came across an article on google talking about a propolis lip cream that works wonders for cold sores. I am just wondering if anyone has tried making their own cold sore cream from propolis and if you have a recipe? Thank you
