    Keeping jarred honey at tempreture

I was thinking the expense of heating the cabinet would be less than the loss of not being able to sell 60 jars of rock solid honey? e.

    Keeping jarred honey at tempreture

Hi all, I have 60 jars of honey for an order that has asked for delivery to be delayed for two months. I want to minimise any chance of the honey crystallising before it goes out, so can I keep jarred honey in the warming cabinet for an extended period at a raised temperature? If so, what...

    3 layer jacket

I got my oz armour directly from the suppliers in Australia and did have to pay import tax, I guess it's the luck of the draw. As for the suit, it's a bit bulky but it does appear to be sting proof and it is lovely and cool.

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Did my first check of the year. Two hive nice and full with lots of fresh stores so added a super (maybe a little early). The third hive seems to be suffering from damp, had tipped forwarded a bit and was low to the ground anyway. It's about half as full of bees as the other two hives and I...

    Swarm prevention - drastic measures

Well good luck, but I hope you were touching some wood when you said that. Every time I have said that in the last six years I have had a phone call from swimbo on the day I have left saying "your bloody bees are swarming again". e.

My beekeeping days may be over

Hi Stedic, for what's it's worth I am in a very similar position to you, I react very badly to stings, not anaphylactic but close, including 3 trips to A&E in the last four years (only one of which had anything to do with beekeeping). In my opinion there is no reason to give up, just make sure...

    First sting of the year!

I too have nasty reactions that has developed from no reaction to epipen carrying over the last three years. I think it has made me a better beekeeper though, I take my time to ensure I'm gentle with the bees and consider everything I do to make sure I am disturbing them as little as possible...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

I was hoping to move the home bees to the out apiary today, but it's warm and the bees are out flying in good numbers so will have to wait for it to go cold again.

    ozarmour bee suit!

For those that have already purchased, is the two layer version still sting proof or is that only the three layer version? I would prefer to go for the two layer version (cost) and only wear shorts and t-shirt but I do need to avoid stings as I'm allergic. Cheers, Ed.

    Honey Warming, some advice please

Thanks very much for the response. Any idea about putting already jarred honey in the cabinet? Ed.

Honey sales, how much before you have to declare to the IR.

On the flip side of this, you can offset your losses against other earnings. Not a bad tax avoidance for a low income sole trader who also keeps bees. Although on sales of £1000 I think you would have a hard time convincing the tax man that it is a commercial venture rather than a hobby.

    Honey Warming, some advice please

Hi all, for the first year I have enough surplus honey that I will be storing and jarring as required for at least 8 months, so I have made myself a warming cabinet but have some questions if you will indulge me: 1. 37C seems to be the suggested temperature to bring set honey back to a liquid...

    Cheap way to stop wasps

Would make a good mouse guard as well I assume? Ed

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Pollen grains are microscopic so you will always end up with pollen in the honey. But you would want to filter out the big clumps of it when you extract. Ed.

    Porter bee escapes

After five years I've given up on porter's a bought myself some rapid clears. They are still not perfect, but do a much better job than the ports. Ed.

    Autumn already?

Two of my hives are behaving like the have in previous Autumns. The queen is slowing her laying down having gone down from 8 frames a month ago to 3 and brood frames are filling with honey, it has gone from one frame full of capped honey to three in two weeks. They have plenty of super space...

    Night time

The fact that the hive is going to be jammed packed full of bees at night as opposed to a majority of them away flying during the day would make inspecting for eggs much harder I would have thought?
