    Forum Poll

I have been a member since 2011. When I first started beekeeping I got a lot of help from members but also got some very strong comments which made me reluctant to ask for more help at the time. The forum is a good place to learn and I did learn a lot. Unfortunately I had to give up...

Post Office - Track and Trace

This is a long shot but I am hoping there is someone out there who is more tech savvy than me who can help. I paid extra to be able to track when an important letter was delivered and signed for and entered the reference number onto the screen. It said I had to download an app. I don't...

    Age at capping?

I have read this too - may well have been Seeley, but you put it so much better than I would have done.

Glass or perspex for solar wax extractor?

Agree it can get too hot, in the London area anyway. My solar extractor was made from an old fridge with the door removed and replaced with a double glazed window panel and some of that foam strip draught excluder to reduce the gaps/keep bees out. The heat of the sun broke the glass. Not into...

Urban Bees Research - can you help?

Usually an observation hive in London Zoo, Regent's Park, insect house. Also one upstairs in Southend Museum.

    Crunch!

In view of the horrible way a certain beekeeping organisation (which I will not name, even by its initials) treats other people who are trying their best to further the interests of beekeepers (again no names) I am almost pleased that I had to get rid of my bees. I will be well out of it. Even...

    National Honey Show - success?

There were at least 4 entries in my class. Not a lot then but at least we had a go.

    National Honey Show - success?

Not sure if this is the right forum, but it's close. Just found out that I got second prize for a cross stitch picture I entered into the national. Not clever enough to post a pic but it said "welcome to my bee shed" with lots of pics of bees/flowers around it. Other half said I did well to...

    Bee alert

What have I missed? Is it worth looking on catch up?

What got you started? and what hive do you use?

I always loved bees when I was a child and used to sit and play with them. My uncle kept bees but would not let me anywhere near them. So no bees for me till much later. Then I met up with a local beekeeper who told me where he kept his hive but my other half said no to 'any more pets'. A...

    Rapid feeder below cover board

Yes I do mean directly on top of the frames. There is no trouble with brace comb. The supers and brood boxes are all bottom bee space and the feeder is bottom bee space too, which gives one bee space between the top of the frames and the bottom of the feeder. Enough room for the bees to...

    Drips

    Same here. Simples.

    Rapid feeder below cover board

Webby - I always put the feeder directly onto the hive with the crown board on the top, then the insulation and then the roof. The bees always took their syrup down.

    Rapid feeder below cover board

I always used to put the rapid feeder directly onto the hive under the crown board. Now I find out that was wrong? Bees never seemed to mind it.
