Hexagonal jar 280ml .... is that the volume a 12 oz jar takes? Unfortunately I don't have one to measure.

Yes I saw that and their price is very keen nearly 20p a jar cheaper than others.

Most 12oz jars are sold at 280ml or 282ml I think they must be designed for jam really, despite what they are sold as. As I find that when filled with 340 g of honey plus a couple for good measure, they can look a bit mean in terms of fullness. Jam with a density of 1.35 will fill them that bit fuller for the same weight.

Freeman & Harding 528 x 280ml / 33.9 each (delivery free over £50)
Freeman & Harding 165 x 280ml / 36 each (ditto)
Bottle Company South 336 x 280ml / 36.9 each (no sign of free delivery)
CW Jones 84 x 340g / 38.5p each (delivery free over £200)
Compak 120 x 340g / 40.4 each (delivery free over £300)

280ml and 340g jars are the same size.

Beware the volumes quoted by the manufacturers. These are for brim full....ie volume of air, with a meniscus in some cases! Would be helpful if they also quoted a recommended fill level volume. Have a jar in your hands and test before having labels printed. Been there etc.

Looks like: 12oz hex jar (with 63mm twist-off lid, 84 supplied per box) x 30 boxes @ 84 jars per box = 2520 jars for £738 = 29.2 per jar.

We put in a bulk order through our association. Touch under 30p including lids, VAT and delivery. Same price for 8oz, 12 oz, 1lb.

There's a lot to be said for filling with honey such that the top surface is not visible so that, if there is the odd bubble around the edge, it is not visible. This may mean that, depending on the jar manufacturer, you need to sell it as 240 or 250g. As Leigh points out, you need to determine the weight you are selling before you print the labels.

My labels state 240g which is more than half a pound but there is no requirement to sell any particular quantity so long as you don't sell underweight product. I changed jar supplier this year and found I needed to pack nearer 150g to hide the surface of the honey but I get a good price for my honey so don't mind a little overweight.

I eventually worked that out after my comment but "her indoors" might object to having 2500 jars in the garage. The 500+ jars I get from F&H is hard enough to secrete in the corner!!!!:):):):):):):)
