Good grief, two inches wide, must be the good food in England, wonder how long they are.

Well yes, is it or isn't it? Or which? - Was earlier trying to make sense of the same Devon story which was on the front page of the Daily Star this morning. Their website shows pics of velutina - the one in France we dread arriving, next to (and smaller than) the European hornet, but also a video of mandarinia, apparently nothing to do with this story. My browser can't cope with the web page or I'd quote some of the terrorising in the story! The woman who found this insect is reported as saying she "nearly swore" when she saw it. I did swear when I saw this. You think: readers are going to be terrified of any wood wasp or any large insect they see!

The Daily Telegraph one is even worse; they have a section called 'At a glance Asian Hornets' with a picture of what looks like , to me, a European hornet just below.

At least they end up with a decent photo at the bottom.

Heard the news on the radio this afternoon. They interviewed a member of the BBKA. He was non-committal, missed a good opportunity to put the record straight.

My girls are all voting for brexit. Sick to death of French exports and alien hornets sneaking into the EU. Makes Izal look like a load of softies!!!

- When you know perhaps only a little about a subject, but enough to realise how badly it's being misreported, as this one is - across the board apparently - doesn't it just make you reflect darkly on the likely accuracy of any 'news item' you see?

Still no confirmed reports of the Asian hornet in the UK. I know the guys who verify these reports, as soon as there is a confirmed sighting I'll hear about it.

None of these hornets would be here if we left Europe, this must stop!!:icon_204-2::ohthedrama:

if the daily smut keeps on with this story, the RBIs will be running around the country looking for asian hornets and will be so overworked they may actually miss a true asian hornet arriving

More hysteria from the Daily Star this week...sounds like the hornets are on steroids too...

"The sightings have not been officially confirmed by specialists but James Roberts, 35, of Northfleet, Kent, also said he killed an Asian hornet last week after it flew past him in his garden.
He said the hornet was around two inches long and he whacked it with a newspaper before flushing it down the plughole."

Hi chaps and chapesses,

There's a brief bit on BBC tomorrow morning - Saturday 21st - about the threat of the Asian Hornet.

BBC1 at, I'm told, 8:50 and 9:50.
Also on the BBC News Channel.

Dusty.

There was! I don't often put the news on but I did this morning to hear them say about asian hornets and then mention your name. And then there you were! Well it's not every day you see someone you know on the telly. :)
