Anyone know, if I can send honey to the USA as a gift ?

Any restrictions on sending honey to the USA ?

They have an embargo on cheap chinese honey to protect their own beekeepers. Figure it should be fine, check gov export regs.... google it.

You can import it in your luggage in the US but I'm not sure about by post. You could always try checking out the Us Customs website : http://www.cbp.gov. At the bottom of the page there is contact us.

Be careful to label the package properly, otherwise the recipients can end up paying taxes. It shouldn't happen, but it does, because my family got caught out.

To be exempt of duty the package has to have the words, "unsolicited gift" in large letters on the outside. UK Post Office doesn't seem to know this rule.

If you don't label it as honey and produced in UK the package might be destroyed. They can check every parcel by opening them, but everything gos through scanners. They don't care if packages are delayed because they don't want bombs in the post - honey can look questionable, so does need to be labelled.

It's worth paying to track parcels to destination.

Blanket ban on all hive products and live bees.

Some exceptions by specially granted licence, ie drone semen.

If you get caught your in trouble.
