The Hunt rode through the village today!

2 Very different personality types;

Made me question their origins??

There is several classes in that fraternity but the two main ones are the horse riders and the quad bike riders.
The upper class horse riders who think they are upper class but they are not and the lower class terrier lads who are not lower class, at the end of the day we all go in the same size hole regardless of what we have.

So what do the Quads do when they get to a corner of a field with no gate or a narrow but deep brook?

The two personalities I was questioning really were;

  • the friendly ones
  • and the iddiots trotting along with little regard to their struggling 4 year old daughter, let alone other road users,
("come along Cressida you're too slow", "But mommy, Sefton is slipping on the ice", "Don't be ridiculous, he's a horse")

The hunts and terriermen know the land they hunt very well, they will all have a good idea of the earths in the area and how to get to them if a fox does go to ground, (pre ban) by the way theses days they trail a dragged scent. :rolleyes:

If you say so! :icon_bs:

Fact is;

Local Magistrates, the Chief Constable and their like are (more or less), above these little infringements.

So we are due the wrath of the latest "Named storm" (presumably this will enable them to be sponsored next year)?

If Doris hits the townies they'll all be moaning that they need a handout from government for the repairs because the didn't bother to pay for an insurance!

The whole fox hunting with hounds ban was a political cock up. The science showed it was no more cruel than the methods of control that would replace it. The biggest tragedy is the environment improvement opportunity missed.
a mile of new or reinstate hedgerow per year per hunt would have been a real benefit to the foxes and their prey.

An excellent and accurate summary of the situation. Many, from the master to the couple boy are the salt of the earth and some are boors. The fashionable liberalism of the "Beggars on Horseback" helps neither hunters, the hunted or their country.

People should wonder not about an extremely inefficient method of controlling foxes but instead a much bigger issue:

What happened to the millions of starlings that made huge clouds of them in the sky a common sight in the countryside rather than now a rare event.

The breed I ride don't have problems.

When I was a boy we used to watch murmurations of starlings over the village of Howdendyke. They haven't been seen since the M62 was built and the trees cut down for development of the fields.
Interestingly there was an article on tv this morning about murmurations in the Lake District going on this month.

When we visit family in The Lakes we watch murmurations at RSPB Leighton Moss
Now, in Wales, we go to Aberystwyth pier. The newest pub in Aber is called "The Starling Cloud"

40 years ago Hawks were employed at Heathrow to keep the starlings away

It's the townies that eat carrots al dente. Us country folk cook them proper. You might see an odd one chewing on a straw from time to time but for most of us we've had the straws surgically removed.:nono:

Most of the UK riders have their children on a lead rope. However the Icelandic riders have no such concerns. The attached clip shows a five year old riding home solo in a snowstorm on an entire stallion. Enough to blow a few uk horsefolks minds I think. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ODMUrJEHLI&app=desktop
