Last night we heard tooting from a hive where a swarm had left (a week after an artificial swarm was carried out. By my calculation the oldest she could possibly be is 18 days old today which makes sense for the tooting after emerging yesterday. However, just now I observed lots of bees at the front of the hive and a few on the back and top of the hive. Many of them had there bums (cough, I mean abdomens) in the air and they were fanning. Is it possible that she is off on a nuptial flight already? Just curious.

Sounds very like it and bon voyage to her and a safe return

Just had another look at the front of hive again and all are back inside now, I wonder? I hope she made it past the birds. My next intended inspection is on the 27th of this month. Aghhhhhh, the suspense is killing me. :willy_nilly:

Sit on your hands untill then you have two other colonies to look at in the mean time
Hopefuly when you inspect next she will be performing well
