I'm having a go at using a Snelgrove board this year. I have just completed the last door opening and shutting manoeuvre which has resulted in the top back door being open and the bottom right door being open. The virgin queen in the top brood box is due to emerge in two days time and hopefully I will end up with a mated laying young queen. When she has settled down (fingers crossed) and is laying properly I would like to use this colony as an extra colony of bees. SO my question is do I have to move it off site i.e. more than 3 miles or can it be re-positioned near the hive it is coming off. Perhaps just behind the original hive with the entrance in the same orientation (rear facing) before gradually moving to a more suitable position?
