Running in a swarm

Had my first swarm. Think I did everything right except that the bees are bearding on the outside of the hive.

I reckon a chunk of them have gone in the hive ok - they seemed to go up the ramp to the hive quite nicely.

Should I leave them as they are for tonight and as it gets cooler they'll see sense and go inside or should I scoop them up and put them into the hive?

I had one like that last night, about 50% outside when i left

all in the box when i visited this morning

Think about it. A swarm can hang outside for a week with no particular problem; as long as the queen is in situ, the rest will follow (eventually), as you have found. That will not necessarily prevent them absconding, but that is another story.
