Any one use mothballs in the empty hives when not in use?

Both too aromatic and carcinogenic

So unless you want your honey to smell of little old ladies then the answer is NO

Would not put them anywhere near my hives. There are better ways of dealing with wax moth. They are carcinogenic and would taint the hives for months to come.
I should think the vapour is highly lipophilic.

No, and there shouldn't be any need to use anything that has such a long-lasting effect anywhere where live bees might be expected to live. Residues will taint your honey and could kill your bees.

You'd be better to treat stacks of empty supers with either acetic acid (ethanoic acid) or sulphur candles, and make sure the stacks are wax moth-proof during and after treatment.

In a normal winter wax moth will be dealt with by frosts, but this isn't a normal winter.

ok thanks for the reply's, A fellow beek said he used them but you have confirmed my thoughts Thanks again all and merry xmas
