A local farmer's wife asked me about her keeping bees, the farm is only about 1/2 a mile from where I keep my bees. It's up on a side of a mountain about 230mts above sea level, I was wondering what sort of heights do other beekeepers keep their hives.

I occasionally help a lady whose hives are approx 1300 feet (400 meters approx) above sealevel in Staffs Moorlands..they have a garden in a sheltered spot.. not much local forage .. gets about 20lbs of honey per hive in a good season..
And another at 1100 feet (330meters) similar story.

At 150 meters where we live, a different story... more honey..per hive - about 50-60lbs in an average year..
And in Cheshire plain ( where Walrus is) lots more honey..

(all within a 30 mile radius - so I laugh at beekeeping generalisations vs what to do when)

Shelter from wind at altitude is essential.
