What did you do in the Apiary today?

With help of my association I removed the last two colonies from my apiary at home, as I've given up due to not really having sufficient time to look after them all properly, plus an increasing dread of the neighbours getting stung (again). I think I'll miss them but will suddenly be able to...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Added an extra super to my three big colonies. Carried out an AS on one colony which had a charged queen cell, this is the first AS I've had to carry out this year. Despite loads of OSR around us, none of my colonies seem to be visiting it, and there's a big range of pollen going in at the...

    Best Hive Type... For You

I started on standard National but moved over to 14*12 last year. I prefer the big lugs on nationals versus the smaller lugs on commercials, and the extra space in the 14*12 seems an improvement over standard nats. I know others disagree, and I've seen 14*12 referred to as an abomination on here :)

    First Q cell

How did you get on? I've got plenty of drones and a few cups in my colonies, but no Queen Cells so far, apart from an empty one in a colony that seems to have superseded at some point since the autumn.

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Forgot to say that the second smaller colony had a QC with the end neatly cut open. No sign of a queen, though there was a small amount of BIAS.

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Gave my colonies their first full inspection of the year. 1 colony had a DLQ which was from a late night towards the end of last summer. Found the queen wandering round looking very healthy, but she got the boot treatment and the colony was united with a small colony which had a 2018 queen...

    nitrile gloves - long cuff

All supermarkets have had to charge for carrier bags since 2015, and as a result bag use has dropped massively. https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/single-use-plastic-carrier-bags-why-were-introducing-the-charge/carrier-bags-why-theres-a-5p-charge

    Nail Gun

That reminds me of the time when I was a teenager when I set the contents of my overalls breast pocket on fire whilst welding. I wondered why I could smell smoke and fortunately figured out where it was coming from before I got burnt :)
