So it's not checked and if there is AFB or EFB in the area it wouldnt be known about by the local bee inspectors. Great idea !!!!!!!

No different than a lot of the "natural beekeeping" hives, or bees that live in trees and such places they choose to live.

What a load of tosh - "The hive requires no specialist training or equipment to set up or maintain and no interaction with the bees! Its easier and more affordable than traditional beekeeping." (their missing apostrophe, not mine). As if!

Only £!85 + VAT! As Granny used to say, "a fool and his money are soon parted"

They could be handy if you drill bigger holes in them for birds to nest in and that big daft thing could be laid on its side.. drill a 2in round hole in either end and stick a Fenn Mk4 rat trap in the middle to stop none target species.. shame about the price though realistically £20 down to £5.00 sounds a bit better..

I'd give it 20 seconds before it hits the deck on a normal Irish "Breezy" day .
Lots more to say but why waste time.
Suffice to say wouldn't recommend it ... ahh the art of Diplomacy !

Why don't they just design better looking homes for solitary bees, i sure they would be a larger market for them and less work for people who put them up.

And 42 quidfor a honey-box? :ohthedrama:

I've heard that mentioned before,

but by Monty Don?????????:blush5:

Given that there was no mention on Gardener's World of honey from Monty's colony this year, I wonder if the beekeeping experiment at Longmeadow has gone as planned

It was a TBH iirc so no chance of any honey ever - except in minimal quantities in a very good year .
Been there ,done that, waste of time.

As with most celebrity marketing ploys, it's been organised by their sponsors and they will have moved on to something else.

If you want a laugh look up some of the other videos especially the one on 'husbandry' he says that if you have Varroa in your hive then burn it!
I suggested he get the matches out post haste

Ref the Gardeners World lack of Bee info, have any of you noticed that he has a National Hive too? occasionally in shot near the boundary, I do think it odd that it was not been mentioned in the last series?

If you can bear the pain of watching them, some more of what can only become classics for a BKA xmas party when the mead is flowing (you might need a glass or bottle of mead to watch these).

Quickly scanned the winterising one. Should be retitled "how to ensure rain and snow drips onto the film covering your topbars and ensures they are perpetually wet in winter"

Heath Robinson would be proud...
