I suggest the OP would be better starting from a bee-centric point of view ( what is best for the bees) rather than beekeeper centric
 
"Understanding the habits of and issues faced by beekeepers in the UK" is actually rather specific whereas the questionnaire seems only/mainly to relate to hives. The habits of keepers (keep it clean please) must also depend upon practices taught/learnt. Then I think about the myths we try to debunk on the forum. Maybe a lot of the issues arises from poor practice or poor education of the craft. The specificity of beehive becomes far less of an issue when knowledge is good and well applied - most have their favourite hive type. The rather proscriptive beekeeping by numbers thinking is also a hurdle that many have to master before becoming effective beekeepers.
