This swarm wasn’t as difficult as it looks from the photo as it was in a small oak tree half way up a hill – so it was just a matter of cutting a few branches out of the way to get to the one that they were on and then tapping them into a box.
We have a wild colony high up in an old asbestos factory near our apiary and I have put a few bait boxes about ‘just in case’. I can’t be 100% sure they are from that wild colony – but that one is favourite.

. Has it been safely cleaned up?
They were haggling a few years ago about the asbestos when the land was up for sale for a housing estate – the people who were buying said that they would do a full and comprehensive job of removing all of the asbestos but the local people didn’t believe them, then we had the banking crisis and things were left as they are.
