Can anyone recommend a supplier of mixed native hedging preferably someone you have used

I have found Ashridge Nurseries to be good. Alternatively, if you want an instant hedge and have deep pockets, try Elveden Estates.

Is it worth contacting either the Woodland Trust or Gwent Wildlife Trust?

(rhs) ive bought loads from them and ther delivery is fast if buying bare root

Its a bit of a treck for you Veg, but I can highly recommend Ty Rhos Trees, near Newport Pembs. Suliman, the proprietor, is a top bloke and a beekeeper to boot, and if you deal with his wife Eisha, shes a hot Italian mama !

If you can travel just over the welsh border into Shropshire, order and pick up from Bucknell nurseries who specialise in hedging. Much cheaper than ash ridge....if not then ash ridge is your best bet, bought specimen trees from them and always been pleased with condition and size.

Lots of restrictions on those like the land has to have public access etc so not looked any further into those.

Just a thought, any help coming from Cardiff Bay mob?

Im happy to hear of any ideas to be honest, I am in the process of buying some land which needs the hedge sorting so I am looking at 200yds to start so roughly 1000 plants.

I haven't tried them myself, but know someone who has and speaks highly of them:

Carmarthen Tree Nursery
Ysticlau Farm,
Nant y Caws,
Carmarthen,
Carmarthenshire,

From RSPB site:

Wales
Tir Gofal offers voluntary 10-year agreements for managing and restoring hedgerows. Tir Gofal is administered by the Governments statutory nature conservation agency for Wales, The Countryside Council for Wales (CCW).

Have you checked your local community council?

google this if not done so already "hedgerow planting grants in Bridgend BC" and "xxxx rhondda cynon taff" throws up a fair bit of info

Thanks for all replies so far, looks like I will have to do a bit more looking into the grant idea.

Hi there

The TCV - used to be BTCV sell mixed hedging packs - come with canes and guards too. We have just planted 250 of these. Mainly hawthorn with a few each of dog rose, dogwood, blackthorn. You will need to be quick to get bare root plants this year.

I don't think the Woodland Trust pollinator pack has demands for public access etc. try them to make sure. Also a good supplier in Capel Issaac between Carmarthen and LLandeilo - sorry but I haven't got access to his address over here!!

I am in touch with woodland trust about the pollinator pack at the moment.

Tir Gofal is no longer in existence (neither is the CCW).

I'll second that.

I have bought mixed native hedging from http://www.hedgenursery.co.uk
The plants are excellent. They will put together any combination for you and are packed with lots of information and support. Excellent place :)

I use ashridge as well. Really helpful and 12 month guarantee on trees / hedges. I had a cherry that died last year, probably due to the long winter and wind, and they replaced no probs.
