How important is hawthorn as a nectar source?

Yes, Giles , the pollen in honey thing is not as simple as it first seems. The percentage of pollen in honey from one particular plant, varies from plant to plant. So called over or under representation of pollen in honey. Hence each source has a pollen coefficient. The amount of pollen counted is divided by the coefficient to give a truer picture. Don't think I have explained that too well, but I hope you get the idea
 
I assume mine were collecting nectar from hawthorn:
1. We ALWAYS have a May-June honeyflow when hawthorn is in bloom.
2. It Almost always stops when the hawthorn stops.

This year was especially pronounced 3rd /4th June was very hot (for here 27C) and that was the end of the flow as the hawthorn blossoms turned brown.

Hedgerows and woods full of it: in the field beside us is a hawthorn tree about 8 meters tall. Had three main branches when we came 34 years ago : now down to one as the others split and fell. Must be over 100 years old or thereabouts...
