just finished and thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. Published in 1983, in a time before Varroa reached the U.K. A nice insight into the life of a bee farmer back in the day. Can anybody recommend anything similar?

Bee-Keeping in Britain, Honey Farming by ROB Manley.
Excellent books showing an understanding of beekeeping (pre varroa) that is still relevant today.

Two books I should definitely read!

Are there any modern ‘honey by the ton’ type books worth looking at? ie. books on modern commercial beekeeping (ideally in the uk)?

Thumbs up from me - Beekeeping in a gentler age...

Nope, the arguments still raged between beekeepers as Manley was keen to point out.....and how he was right (which he was most of the time).
