If you are going to put a box on top close the bottom entrance and make one under the new brood box, preferably above and below the QX otherwise the bottom box will get full of pollen.

Think I am with you.. A Snelgrove style board?
Pop that on first, on top of old brood box.
Then new Brood box
Then Queen excluder.
Then super as normal.

I use a QX with a rim each side and a notch cut out both sides. The bottom one lets drones out

Just to share the love... The super took me 4 pound coins to wedge apart while working as round with the hive tool... that must be a record 🤣
