I just have a couple of things I'd like to get opinions on. After a recent split I've added some frames of foundation. The bees seem to have extended the cells on an existing frame instead of drawing out the new foundation. Looks like there won't be enough room now. Is this something they will sort out or something I need to do.
Here's an image of it: https://www.dropbox.com/s/8b6cvtgw2huczlk/large frame.jpg

Another worry I have is on another frame. It has foundation on the top quarter and the rest is natural comb. Seems like it's mostly drone foundation. Am I right about that and is there anything I should do? Will I just leave it to them to make as many drones as they want? They haven't connected the comb at the side or bottom so it's a bit annoying that it's loose in the frame.

Nothing to worry about in the first picture - they tend to extend the stores area to single bee space leaving double bee space where there is brood - they will sort it out as and when they see fit.
Bees in a healthy colony will strive for a balance of 20% drones during the season. Giving them a blank frame to draw what they liked on means they made all the drone cells in the same place. When they don't need them, again, they'll sort themselves out!

Thanks for the reply. I was afraid they would create too many drone cells given the chance to make their own comb vs. worker foundation.
Glad to hear the extended stores won't be a problem. I thought they would work on drawing the other foundation first but I'm finding out they don't have the same ideas as me.

They never do, and if you start thinking like a bee.......they'll start thinking like something entirely different!
That's part of the fun of beekeeping!
