Hi, My bees are next to a horse breeding farm, The kind farmer fenced of an area 20 x 40 feet so his horses cant get at the hives. This is what I was told that bees dont like large dark objects as they think it is a wild animal going to attach them ([this is why beekeeping suits are not brown) If the animal gets close to the front of the hive then bees will come out to investigate and if the animal gets a warning sting then it might kick the hive over then look out

When you says the site is well fenced I took it as meaning a stockade arrangement - if you mean a hedge or solid fence so that the horses don't get near the hives you may be OK.

Like others I have horses in an adjacent field, about 30 yards away, and they often trot down a lane separated by a tall hedge about 8 meters away. Not had any problem yet, even with a very aggressive colony last year.
