One with bees 2 ready for bees!
In hot weather would it be a good idea to use fine mesh to cover the feed holes rather than solid wood pieces. This would give better ventilation or will the bees regulate the temperature themselves anyway?
 
Mine all have crownboards(no holes whatsoever) and 4" of kingspan under the roof 365 dpy
They all have an OMF without a tray all year too.
They draw in and expel whatever they choose,I don't get involved and we all get along just fine.
Just like a tree - bees deal with what they have got whether in the wild or supplied by the beekeeper (who thinks he knows best what they want or like). Don't apply anthropomorphism to your beekeeping. They'll prove you both right or wrong......
