Is it normal for a queen to go off laying completely?

Yes, at this time of the year - apiguard or not

it strikes me that if she stops for long enough it gives a great opportunity to add a brood-free OA treatment on top!

But why bother as the Apiguard will do the same trick

For most organisms pesticides that work via different mechanisms usually work better in combination.

You could do a trial run or you could wait and do the vape around December as a mid winter treatment.

I just checked in the hives...... It's been just over a week into the second (50g) apiguard treatment.....I'm getting about 10-20 per day on one hive and about 50-100 per day drop on the other

What should I do about the varroa treatment with regards there is still a lot of mite dropping.

So I just did a quick inspection.....the hive had a first dose of 50g apiguard two weeks ago.....then a second tray two days ago.....I just went in to do a quick inspection .....I know apiguard puts the queen off laying....but I was shocked to see I have some capped brood, but pretty much nothing else. The queen is there I saw her marching around.

Yes it can happen and they’ll often strip out unsealed brood, in fairness it’s more common I found with the first application.
