So my veil has holes in it...rip type holes, not just the teeny tiny holes actually in the mesh! It's currently being held together with masking tape but this doesn't seem very sensible

Anyone had any experience with repairs? What's the best way?

Aquaseal... a product sold by dive shops for wetsuit repairs works well on small rips.

I ended up buying some black cotton fly screen mesh and getting nimblefingured daughters to sew into hood, replacing the plastic stuff

sometimes sold also as tule?... but try to get cotton, not pollyester.

Someone I Used To Know replaced the veil in her suit with some non-shiny mesh that she bought in a fabric shop, and sewed the thing into place herself.
Others may not have the haberdashers, skills, time or mental attributes to want to DIY. But its not a bee-specialist-only job.

Brill thanks. Yeah, replacing the entire veil sounds like it's going to be the most sensible idea. Sigh, stupid washing machine

I always wash my veil in a pillow case so it does not get damaged

Just leave the veil on the suit, but tuck it inside, and zip it back up works for me.

You can get net from places that make ballet clothes - tutus and so on. Tell them what you want it for and you'll probably be given a choice of two fabric weights, but if you take the veil with you they'll be able to match the quality. They might even do the repair it for you.

Ratcatcher's wife on here did a very nice repair when a zip needed replacing on one of my suits

Lidl and Aldi sell mesh fly screens 2 for £3.99 enough to do several veil replacements, and as they come with a 3 yr guarantee ( before cutting) they should be plenty strong enough to survive washing.

I have used fly screen to replace veil mesh, but try and get black mesh - easier to see through. I have also used the foil car exhaust repair tape to repair small holes because it is really sticky and will last the season.

I've just had the veil repaired on my 20+ year old Sh8rriff bee jacket which is otherwise as good as new. It's easily done because the hood is detachable.... it cost £22.50 inc p.p
