    Odd season...observations...

This is an odd season. Just because you find sealed cells and find no new eggs...does NOT mean the queen has gone. I am generally good at finding queens first time through when I need to and this year there seems to be a lot of supersedure/swarm blends going on so non-textbook stuff and...

    Beequick....a warning...lol

Spent a couple of jolly days on and off in town flushing a new swarm out of a chimney. Long story. Queenless (thanks pestie) and collect nuc tomorrow night, half the bees already united. Anyhow, part of the rigmarolle involved putting Beequick up the flue on rods. Works well. Anyhow, pestie in...

    Swarming with no reason?

Are we all sitting comfortably, now I'll begin... Last year I was called to look at some bees who had been living, very probably continuously, behind some shuttering on the outside of a "simple dwelling" three feet from the entrance door and at head height. Sometimes bees got into the house...

    Nosema may well kill...

...your bees. They had a rotten wet summer, limited proper stores to winter on (sugar isn't real food), long winter, late pollen......and if they are a shadow of their pre-winter selves they likely have bad Nosema. Nosema ceranae is not linked with dysentery. It is less obvious. Dysentery...

    Got the scaffolding....

.....got to hand it to him for persistence. Went to look at a simple cut-out at around seven feet height last May (big wavy edge board, have been bees there years). Guy is supposedly a builder (though "house" more like a prospectors' shack) and said he'd get some scaffolding. And we waited...

    Donald and Daisy...

Donald Duck and Daisy Duck were spending the night together in a hotel room and Donald wanted to have sex with Daisy. The first thing Daisy asked was, "Do you have a condom?" Donald frowned and said, "No." Daisy told Donald that if he didn't get a condom, they could not have sex. "Maybe they...

    Who's the culprit...

Top corner of the apiary there are three stands of hives on pallets...of the top three two have had their mouse guard removed clean off - no marks no other obvious damage/claw/teeth marks, third is hanging off on one side. The fourth (and last on the apiary at that "height") is a strong double...

    Hive Franchising

Just had a mailshot from these people. Am I the only one who feels that having a lifestyle hive in a small garden at only £520 a year minimum, a showroom and franchises here just isn't quite right....?
