    'Renting' beehives. How much?

Thanks again all. These replies aren't very encouraging, and the arrangement is probably more complicated than I first thought. There is a part of me that wants to be helpful after them reaching out, but managing another out-apiary under these circumstances is probably more hassle than it's...

    'Renting' beehives. How much?

That would be more straightforward, but the trouble is that I would have no idea what to charge for my time/labour, and also the extraction and jarring. Is there any beekeeper already doing this kind of thing and has an agreed amount they get per hive? Even though they're a bit of a drive away...

    'Renting' beehives. How much?

Thanks emoclewbee & Wilco for your time and replies and helping me think this through. I'm hoping to meet with them during the week so I'll try to have some plan prepared before then. 🤞

    'Renting' beehives. How much?

My plan was to take the honey as a means of being paid for the service I'm providing and then sell it on to cover all the costs and hopefully have some profit to make it worthwhile. They initially just wanted bees in their garden, but are now looking at them as a means of raising funds for the...

    'Renting' beehives. How much?

Would there be a better way to approach this? I'm open to ideas. I've never been asked to do something like this before.

    'Renting' beehives. How much?

I have been asked by a resident's association to look after their couple of beehives this year after the previous beekeeper gave up beekeeping at the end of last year. I'll be paying for all costs including treatments/feed/wax/extraction/jarring/labelling etc during the year, and it's a bit of...

    Squeezy bottles

Thanks all. I'll stick to the jars I think, but might suggest filling reusable containers for him and others who might want alternatives.

    Squeezy bottles

Yeah, might be a good solution alright. Would keep things simpler on my side too.

    Squeezy bottles

We don't want to be heating the honey too much. Our honey is usually slow to crystallise but it does after a few months.

    Squeezy bottles

I was asked today by someone buying our honey if we ever supply it in squeezy bottles as they'd much prefer the handiness of them compared to the 1/2 lb glass jar we use now. Does anyone here use them? If so, where can they be sourced, or should we just stick with the jars?

    Thymol mix in sugar brick

Never heard of them. Will check them out. Strabane about an hour away which wouldn't be too bad. Thanks. 👍

    Thymol mix in sugar brick

I'll have a look around and see what I can find in the area.

    Thymol mix in sugar brick

Not that I know of around here. Don't know of any beekeepers around that use baker's fondant.

    Thymol mix in sugar brick

Would there be any advantage in adding some thymol mix to the small amount of water used when making up some sugar bricks for emergency winter feeding? We've moved away from fondant as the shipping costs make it very expensive.

    Fermenting heather honey

I'm pressing out my heather honey and this is happening to some of the frames, more than I would like. I'm guessing it's fermenting, even though the cells were capped. This frame is one of the worst ones. Some open cells have bubbles inside them too. Is there any way of rescuing this situation...

    Glass jars in freezer?

    Glass jars in freezer?

Had never thought about plastic lids. Must look into them.

    Glass jars in freezer?

Thanks James. Give it a couple of weeks and we'll have the freezer full to the top. 😊

    Glass jars in freezer?

Great, that will make things easier. Trying to plan ahead before extraction. (y)

    Glass jars in freezer?

If I jar my heather honey or chunk honey in 8oz hexagonal jars, is it safe enough to put them into the deep freeze at -21 degrees or is there a risk that the glass will crack with the sudden change of temperature? And could the lids begin to rust in the damp environment?
