    Queen Still Not Laying

Yikes! So I suppose even if by some miracle she did start laying now then it would be too late as all the current worker bees wouldn't last long enough to rear the first brood?

    Queen Still Not Laying

Hey, I'm based up in Swansea, Wales and my Queen from last year still hasn't started laying yet. There are no eggs, however the colony is out and about collecting pollen. Just wondering if anyone else is still in the same boat? My may concern is that the colony is starting to diminish and...

    Empty Super

It's getting quite late in the year and my colony I started in May hasn't ventured into the Supers. I even tried leaving the queen excluder off for about 4 weeks. Bees seem to clean in there but there's no attempt at drawing out the frames. The bees seem really rammed in the brood box and...

    Observation Hive Advice

Well, well isn't beekeeping a small world! are you the person selling it on gumtree? I texted you earlier about possibly collecting it tomorrow for my dads birthday! haha! I know he really wants an observation hive, however I know that he wouldn't want to keep it inside the house. From the...

    Observation Hive Advice

Hi there, I've got the chance to purchase an observation hive like this. I was just wondering if anyone has seen one similar to this and if it's possible to keep it outside. I don't like the idea of having bees indoors, however it would be nice to have a hive that we can see inside clearly...

    Drone or Queen Cell

I put MAQS in my hive a week ago. Today I opened it up to check that the queen was still alive. I found her and she appears to be laying, however I noticed these potential queen cells at the bottom of a frame. I'm fairly certain they are just drones, however I wanted to check to see what you all...

    Bees In Slow Motion

Just discovered the slow motion setting on my mobile. I decided to place it on top of the hive and film the bees land and take off. It makes for relaxing viewing so I thought I'd share it with you. https://youtu.be/PjfaK4S0Bd8 Enjoy!

    Varroa Mite

By the way have you put white card down greased it? Or is this just what you've seen on the normal board?

    Varroa Mite

I'm far from experienced but that seems like a very low number. In a fairly small hive I counted 19 drops onto the inspection board within a 24 hour period. I decided to treat and the following 24 hours I saw a mass of 183 land on the board. Another 24 hours it fell down to 72. So I think I...

    Arnia Hive Monitors

Hey, Before I'm accused of any thing of the sort... I have not and do not work for or am not affiliated with this company. AT ALL :nono: Now we've sorted that :-)... Has anyone used, own or have opinions on the Arnia Hive Monitors? Details here: (arnia.co.uk) I'm not sure quite how useful...

Anyone Using MAQS Strips This Autumn?

Great thanks. My treatments been in since 20:00 last night and I've just taken out the inspection board. 24 hours previous I had counted 19... This time there was around 183. Treatment is working!

What would you consider a heavy mite drop?

Anyone Using MAQS Strips This Autumn?

Well I put in two MAQS into my hive yesterday. I had to do it around 8pm, which they weren't too pleased about. I have a super on there but the queen hasn't ventured up there yet. I wasn't sure if I should keep it on or not. On one hand I thought that if I took it off then it might decrease the...

Anyone Using MAQS Strips This Autumn?

Thanks MJT68. I'll get the strips in later on this afternoon and keep an eye on them.

Anyone Using MAQS Strips This Autumn?

Oh no! My MAQS just arrived today as my newish hive has got a high Varroa count. I didn't realise you couldn't use this during winter. Do you think it would be a safe treatment to use for a few weeks to bring down the infestation level then take it out?

    Queen Puape?

Not yet... I plan on doing that this weekend. I noticed a few flightless (wings too short) darker colored bees on the floor outside the hive. This has me somewhat concerned about the level of infestation. However, I haven't seen any Verroa attached to adult bees inside the hive yet. So things...
