Multiple dimples on capped brood frames

Thanks the both of you. I did think it was likely drone brood, I think they have the swarming bug, damn rain's stopping me going in there though.

Multiple dimples on capped brood frames

Hi, One of my frames of brood has a peculiar configuration with dimples around each individual cell that I haven't seen before. That said, I've only been beekeeping two years and have only two colonies. I wondered if this is something to do with drone brood or is it a health concern that needs...

Feeding back previously extracted sugar syrup

Thanks, I'll try that - is about 5kg of the stuff, I'll put some spare in plastic bottles to store.

    Leaving honey in extractor

Would a pair of tights do?

Feeding back previously extracted sugar syrup

Earlier this year I split a colony and fed the newbies a little syrup to get them going. A few weeks later I had run out of frames and supers so extracted what turned out to be rather sugary tasting honey. I've kept it in a plastic container thinking that I could feed it back to the bees for...

    Leaving honey in extractor

Thanks everyone. There's about three and a half supers worth of honey, I've done the double filter thing, but was wondering whether a final pass through cheese cloth (or tights) would still be worthwhile. Anyway, thanks again.

    Leaving honey in extractor

Right, this is my first year extracting, so I wouldn't know what to do if it granulates in a plastic bucket either. As well as having no alternative storage right at this minute, I thought the extractor tap would be great for jarring the honey, not so? Best stick my head in a book when I get home.

    Leaving honey in extractor

Actually, it's probably stainless steel. I was just wondering if the honey would spoil by reacting to the metal.

    Leaving honey in extractor

Can honey be left in an aluminium extractor? I'm out of storage space and not ready to jar them yet.

Cull the Queen cells or leave the her to do it?

I have a hive which swarmed, but didn't have any queen cells because I'd destroyed them (I must have missed the swarm by a day perhaps, there were eggs when I checked and had no kit left for an AS as I'd already performed one weeks before). I have now checked the hive again and there are four...

Is tongue and groove a problem?

Thanks people. Will go with it. Will it still need staining?

Is tongue and groove a problem?

I have several metres of 18mm thick Cedar planks (at no cost) but they're only 90mm wide and they're tongue and groove, which means that if I slot them together to get the required width there will be a small indent along the join inside the hive. Will this cause a problem? Could I use a...

    Has the bubble burst?

Application numbers for the Cambs beekeeping course have been down this year apparently, though still fully subscribed.
