Hi,
Just wondering what people use/recommend.
Small number of beehives so wont be investing in sublimox or similar so something more like a GasVap.
Would it be better to just trickle?
Thanks
According to Bee Inspector in NI 100% inspection rate from Italy is the current policy. As of about 3 months ago (possibly before but this was the conversation i had)
I'm in Northern Ireland not near any of those areas.
Every Commercial Beekeeper around me keeps buckfast. Beeks with between 200-500 hives. Some keep mixed some exclusively buckfast so even if i kept only AMM it wouldn't make a drop in the ocean.
As far as im aware any Bees moving EU/NI/UK NI authorities should be notified. I know the Bee Inspectors in NI have a 100% inspection policy when it comes to imports from Italy into NI. Although you are 100% right there is no way to know how many go where.
I'm inclined to agree.
I've been keeping Buckfast bees, in Ireland and have 8 F3 queens mated this year. Only 1 of them has a temperament issue and that was there in the F2 along with a strong swarming tendancy. There are many Beeks in Ireland keeping buckfast and according to officials there...

I have 2 colonies at the moment. 1 of which has swarmed both a prime and cast swarm (which i have captured and put in 2 separate hives)
My struggle now is I cannot find a new queen in the hive. There is 1 capped cell (centre frame) which the bees are attending too very well and a number of...
From what i've seen he feeds 2L every 3 days or 1L every 1/2 days depending on when he is there. He does have an awful lot of hives so it seems labour intensive.
I've watched quite a bit from his channel and he feeds little and often so doesnt use a bigger feeder. 600g per day for a sinlge brood box and 200g per day for a nuc.
When i speak to many beeks they always say damp kills bees not cold so i'm concerned that my focus on insulation is not going to be enough and i'm researching effective ventilation/humidity controls.
Even on insulation i get mixed messages so i'm trying to do as much of my own research as possible.
I'm going into my first winter so i haven't tried it yet but it seems like an interesting idea.
1st season so not sure what winter is going to bring but i'm heavily into insulation and when i speak to many beeks they always say damp kills bees not cold so i'm concerned that my focus on...
