    Question on Snelgrove and Demaree

With a screened board, the upper box is a separate entity nurse bees in the box below do not have access.

    Question on Snelgrove and Demaree

Probably sufficient stores contained within the combs plus the ( quite a considerable number of ) new foragers in the upper box. I split an upper brood box into mating nucs yesterday, it had been above a double screen board. A sizeable cluster gathered at the rear of the hive later on, where the...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Set up three Amm mating nucs, two with cells and the third with a newly emerged virgin from the incubator. Then replaced the stand under the oak tree before it collapsed which went much smoother than I expected. Stacked some blocks in front of the stand, moved the hive onto these, a double brood...

    A slightly surreal conversation

Often accompanied by the vacant stare when you are sorting out their mess and asking what on earth they were thinking.

Virgin queens. Whats the best simple method to get them mated.

Bank them in their cages, in a hive or hives, up in the supers will do, the bees will tend to them. Then I would make up some mating nucs and pop them into these with the tabs snapped off.

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Broke down cells to singles in a couple of hives and removed two queens to nucs after finding charged cells. Set up Amm mating nucs and gave them some thin syrup. Next Monday will transfer some more cells. Had one colony today looks like it's been foraging tar, all around the frame lugs was...

What did you do in the 'workshop' today

For the past two years I've used my Instantvap to treat my friend's apiary, he was so impressed he bought one this year. He also went for the compact as it was cheaper, it has all the other features so a no brainer really.
