Just enquired what happens with swarms caught by our districts swarm co-ordinators, and was told that they get to keep them.

Is this common practise amongst associations? I read quite a few posts (eg Mike A a few minutes ago) referring to waiting lists. We don't have an association apiary which I guess may be a factor.

What do other associations do/charge?

In our BKA all members willing to go out to collect a swarm register with the Swarm co-ordinator. When he gets a call he phones the nearest person on the list.
It's then up to them what they do with the swarm - some keep them, others donate them to another beekeeper or to the assoc apiary.
