Some might say you have laying workers now.

I was thinking that last week but wasn't to sure because it was only 1 egg per cell and they where in the middle and standing up. Going by the books this suggests it mightn't be laying workers thou I might be wrong. Why did they stop laying thou because theres room to lay and looks like its stopped once QCs where capped.

1 capped QC hatched from the side so knocked all the rest down and closed up the hive.
Hmm, whenever I've seen a queen cell with a hole in the side it means the dead larva has been pulled out by the workers. The queen normally emerges through the tip of the cell.

The virgin has just hatched today going by my dates so hopefully she comes back mated soon. If not, I'll unite this hive with hive5.
Soon? Check this thread for an idea of timings. http://www.beekeepingforum.co.uk/showthread.php?p=488963#post488963

If it was a viable queen, the cell was 90% capped on the 25th June so I'd say fully capped that night and another 8 days brings me up to yesterday. Forgot to mention the tip was also opened but with the side hole bigger, I stupidly assumed the queen hatched from there.

All I can do now is wait another while to see if there is a mated queen. If not, I think this hive is a lost cause with the age of the flying bees thou I'll still try a unite with hive5 if its still worth it.
