What did you do in the Apiary today?

I think it's the weather, Poot. They sound a bit like mine at the last inspection. The worst was unfortunately the first I opened, lots leaving the seams and pinging hands and veil, very noisy, frantic behaviour. The rest lost any patience after a few frames and became fairly similar. They all...

    Polystyrene primer ?

A few of my Abelo roofs are peeling in places whereas my poly nucs are mostly painted with bog standard emulsion and no sign of wear.

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Not a good day with the bees today, I think their patience with the weather has worn thin. I found and remarked the yellow queen. Every colony was horrendous.

    Do you Destroy Queencups/Play Cups?

There's play cups and play cups as far as I'm concerned. They mean nothing. Really? I know when I need to be a bit more vigilant. ;)

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Took a colony to their new owner yesterday, the car was full of the aroma of Dandelion. Did a quick inspection and remarked some queens and found a frame with two cells on it, sealed, same age. Noticed a fair amount of drone brood also and as she is a three year old queen, it looks like her time...

How far apart for double screen?

Mine are 12mm, they do the job. 18mm would make for a heavy board.

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Sorry Richard, that's a blob of Willow pollen. When I find her she will probably be like the others, a faint ring of colour around a shiny black thorax.

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Sorry, I was being a bit wicked. She is a marked yellow 2022 queen but no chance of finding her in that lot ;)

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Good day at the farm apiary adding supers and brood boxes to some lovely, thumping colonies and remarked five queens. These got another brood box and a super, can you spot the queen?

    Runny honey/crystallisation

Supply in smaller batches and it's usually sold and off the shelves long before it begins to granulate. A granulation label like Phil has mentioned gives explanation for any customer who is not aware.

    Yet another newbie!

Sounds a bit of a nightmare.

    Runny honey/crystallisation

Stored in buckets and warmed to jar prior to sale, pretty normal practice.

Transferring my Nuc to a full Hive

Put the deep frames in the brood box then an excluder over them and put the shallow frames of brood above the the excluder but over the brood below to keep the nest together so to speak. The brood will soon emerge leaving the frames to be used for honey. If you can't find the queen you can make...
