    I agree 👍

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Yes, I’m estimating that it will be another couple of weeks until any of the new Queen’s offspring emerge. So I was thinking that a frame of capped brood would give them a buffer to keep the numbers up.

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Yeah I was thinking after taking it out that I should have left it 🤦‍♀️. Do you think I should give them another one?

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Re Queened 2 hive’s, the first one 8 day’s ago the colony has accepted her and when I checked today she has started laying the larvae looks about 5ish day’s oldish. Very pleased, thank you BMH 😃. However, I am looking for some advice please. The colony appeared to be Queenless on my first...

    Abelo 12 frame

That’s exactly what I use and they work well. Another thing I do to make removing the shallow box from the top of the brood box without the plastic QE sticking (which it always does), is to tie a piece of plastic line to each corner of the QE and let it hang outside the hive, then hold it to...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

I know how you feel, we have 56mph winds here, if we had any blossom on our trees it would be blown away 💨. Staying indoors making wildflower seed bombs 😂

Brood box rammed with bees…action required?

I live just outside Keswick and it was 7*C today, our weather forecast says 8*C tomorrow then 9*C Thursday. Then we will reach the dizzy heights of between 10*C and 13*C up until the middle of April. Worst thing is it’s forecast to rain everyday until 15th April 😫. We are still awaiting any...

    First Queens Of The Season

I had a couple of Queen’s from Laurence last year and they did brilliantly well. I have 3 yellow Queen’s which I will replace this year with BMH Queen’s. However, it’s still a while away for me to be thinking about inspecting never mind making splits, here in the north of Cumbria. We are...

What's flowering as forage in your area

Damn foxes, we have a lot of free range hens here and although we have electric fence around the hen range the foxes are always trying to get in. They can do a lot of damage in a short amount of time and the other hens are so scared they stop laying.

We have 65 acres of commercial willow that we grow for biomass fuel which is starting to bloom. It is only about 750yrds, as the bee flies, from the hive's but it’s too wet for them to get there. In fact this little willow that is growing a few feet from the hive’s isn’t even getting any...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Bee’s busy out flying, snow still covering the hilltop’s but pleasant in the sunshine. Had to replenish fondant on 3 out of 6 colonies. Roll on better weather the ground here is so sodden it’s going to take a long time to dry it out and warm it up for growing 🤦‍♀️

Thanks for sharing your methods, everyday’s a school day 🧐 I’ll give them a go

What did you do in the Apiary today?

I had a similar experience yesterday when checking and topping up fondant, thankfully I had my bee jacket on but got stung through my jeans. I think generally the bees are more defensive in the winter. When swapping fondant tubs or bags for new one’s how do forum members get the bees out of the...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Our farm sits in the shadow of Blencathra in the Lake District, we had 4 inches of snowfall today and are expecting -7* tonight. I’m pleased the hives are well insulated and fondant was topped up last Friday. So gonna :chillpill: and build a :xmas-smiley-010:

Happy New year fellow beekeepers. What are your aspirations?

Happy New Year. This year i am hoping to get all my colonies onto double brood. I have 6 hive’s but only 1 is double brood. Also aim to replace 3 yellow Queens this year. Having read posts on forum about varroa problems, I am also going to do a OAV series before supering.
