    Thanks for the replies everyone, Half was wondering if I could as I like making stuff (I find it more enjoyable) but obviously if I can get one cheap I might do that. I can borrow a proper one off the BBKA. But just wondering. I might give it a go when I get some spare time.

    Has anyone ever tried making there own honey spinner? I was thinking if I could get or make a cage to hold the frames I could do it all in a homebrew bucket using a drill for the odd one or two frames, as it already has a hole in the lid. Only problem is I can't find any pre made cages for less...

    Yes it came with two settings 1 and 3 inch (roughly without checking). Wasn't sure if I could expect honey this year or get just both broods drawn out

    Thankyou, I went over my notes from the bbka course and couldn't see. When would you say is good to open to 3inches? I have a 8frame langstroth deep frames (9.1" deep") so difficult to find something not relating to nationals

    Hi, I got a hive that's protected by what I think is a either wax exterior or some sort of rub similar. It was a hive I was gifted new so not to sure. My question is what do people treat them with? The dove tail joints are bare so will need something come winter. But I know normal paint...

    I transferred 6 frames, 2 full of honey one drawn out comb rest looked like capped larvae. I put in two blank foundation frames. I put some syrup in a feeder to help draw some comb out.

    Hi, I transfered my first Nuc today into the hive. I couldn't spot the queen but most bees happy to follow in the hive so not to worried. But when is the best time to do the first inspection of the hive?

    Hi, I have been gifted a hive It has two brood box's taking langstroth deep one super, all 8 frames each. My question is once my colony get up and going would two brood boxes be to much? Also how easy isit to cut back down to one for winter, or isit best hust leave two on? Thankyou
