Honey from a euthanised hive: safe for consumption?

I am a decent person and I do not lie. CO2 was discussed and is what I was hoping to be able to do. Can you please stop with the personal attacks on my character. Did you read the bit about cyber bullying?

Honey from a euthanised hive: safe for consumption?

Okay, I'll try to explain one last time: enclosing the bees was an emergency response, in preparation for obtaining CO2: I was genuinely not anticipating they would expire without any further intervention before I could arrange that. Bees in garden? My garden is large, and when the apiary was...

Honey from a euthanised hive: safe for consumption?

As a parting communication, my mentor was not involved in the bag thing: that was me. I had not heard of petrol before and the double bagging (builders sacks) was to try to contaim them and transport them away from the garden in my trailer and think again. But they were escaping from the...

Honey from a euthanised hive: safe for consumption?

Yup. Keeping the bees contained was really my priority. Opening the hive was simply not possible, so soapy water and other instant solutions were really not practical. As I said, it was not done lightly, but rather with real concern for the safety of others. I'd prefer this post is taken down...

Honey from a euthanised hive: safe for consumption?

Okay, so I'm not proud of this: I had to euthanise an EXTREMELY aggressive hive last weekend. I could post a separate thread about that, but briefly, the hive was so aggressive that re-queening was simply not an option. I really believe they would have killed me if I'd attempted to re-queen...

    Not for the faint hearted....

My stone never made it out of my kidney, and the proposed lithotripsy could not be carried out as triangulation by X-ray was unsuccessful, as the stone was obscured by my pelvic bone in one orientation. I'm quite glad the remaining option was general anaesthetic and then inserting a laser 'in...

    The hard-of-hearing beekeeper

It's like all the videos of traffic accidents that seem to be a staple of YouTube: you never see a recording of a traffic accident unless someone has a DashCam, ergo, DashCams cause accidents.

    The hard-of-hearing beekeeper

Thanks! Every day is a day at School. Even Christmas Day.

    The hard-of-hearing beekeeper

Nope. Left ear was a 'reverse squeeze' diving incident in the Red Sea in about 1995: instant whistle that has never gone away. Right ear was two and a half years ago with my little boy coming back from school and passing a viral infection on to me: it went into my inner ear and did a job on my...

    The hard-of-hearing beekeeper

Still learning how to attach a quote from an earlier post (see above: credit to Oxnatbees!) , and clearly failing: I like the idea of the above! I wonder about inserting a USB C microphone inside the hive, and then plugging that into the phone when needed. I wonder how long before bees...

    The hard-of-hearing beekeeper

A totally different approach would be to run a spectrum analyser program on your mobile phone - for example Spectroid is a free app - and place the phone so the microphone is in the entrance, you would then SEE the change in tones.

    The hard-of-hearing beekeeper

I wear an NHS hearing aid in my right ear, when I remember to put it in! The hearing loss in the right on was due to a viral infection that went into the inner ear, and completely wiped my balance for several days (and VIOLENTLY bouts of illness), twice over within a week. I spent a couple of...

    The hard-of-hearing beekeeper

I'm quite hard of hearing in both ears, particularly my right. I have slight tinnitus in both ears. I treated my hives (3 Nationals) with oxalic acid vapour last weekend with my mentor, as I am still a relative newbee. Upon gassing one hive in particular, he commented "Ah yes, here that...

    "Wobbly Bee"

CBPV doesn't make the cut, but in general there are too many damn TLAs. LFT (liver function test, or is that lateral flow test?).

    Clothing (mesh skullcap?)

Thanks for the input. I used to wear a baseball cap, but my new bee suit is a round veil rather than a fencing veil, so I don't need to keep the veil away any more. I never got on with the veil anyway. I found a nice tight fitting 'prayer hat' that I think will do the job: cotton and lots of...

    Clothing (mesh skullcap?)

Posting here because I still know so little, and I still get stung by my mean bees. Does anyone know of a good 'mesh skullcap' that I could wear on my rather bald head, to introduce 'distance' between my flesh and the material of the bee suit hood? The little tykes manage to sting me through...

Small eight legged mites on inspection board

Oribatid seem likely. There were no obvious mites today, so still unable to provide a photo. I'll perhaps return to this if they do reappear. Thanks!

Small eight legged mites on inspection board

Hi All, Undeterred by the lack of response to my last post, I today observed lots (maybe >30) of small (smaller than varroa) yellowish mites moving at fair speed through the detritus on the inspection board. Unfortunately, I am unable to share any images, as the USB microscope I use decided to...

    Cause of death?

I saw a deformed developing pupa being dragged out of and away from the hive today: bulbous head/ thorax which upon poking with a dry grass 'stick' appeared to be gas filled (compressible without 'bursting' rather than liquid or foul). Are here any tell tail signs on the attached picture that...

    Ant droppings?

I've two things I need to identify on my inspection board (picture attached): What are the little black things amongst the uncapping wax? Are they ant droppings? I do have some ants that are finding their way into the hive. They certainly are not bee scat. What are the other things (grey...
