    Cambridgeshire BKA talk by ITLD

Hi Murray - I thoroughly enjoyed your talk, and your in-depth posts on this forum, many thanks. A couple of questions if I may - varroa wasn't discussed in much detail - what treatment regime do you use and do you find any problems with not being able to treat until after you've taken the...

    Stainless steel honey press?

Thanks everyone, Elainemary - I presume you're using the hand held loosener - how does this work, do you prefer it to the press? It looks like it only covers a small part of a frame at a time and would be time consuming and tedious to loosen numerous frames? And is it effective in getting all...

    Stainless steel honey press?

How do you find the size of this press? I'm torn between the 9-10 litre and the 20 litre versions - I have half a dozen hives within a mile or so of heather and got a few supers worth. Also I see they do fine and coarse versions of the straining bag - any recommendation on which to go for?

    Ventilated Bee Suit.

I would definitely recommend a ventilated suit, I got an OzArmour 2 or 3 years ago and it's great, highly recommended, but as others have pointed out there are numerous other companies producing similar suits now.

Wanted - Nucs - South West Scotland

Hi, Anyone got any nucs available (or may have in the next few weeks) in South West Scotland or a reasonable travelling distance from Dumfries & Galloway? Thanks.

    Honey analysis

Got my results today as well. My hives are sited in a rural area with no arable crops or farming nearby - surrounded by rough pasture, livestock hill farmland and woodland. The Spring honey is dominated by tree blossom - Sycamore, Willow, Wild Cherry, Beech and Sliver Birch are 5 of the top 6...

Overheated honey options & warming cabinet thermostat

Thanks for the advice. Not back to the bees then - best start looking for a customer for bakers honey! "Eat yourself" - 30lbs is a bit much for me to have myself - although I do give some to friends & family. Is it safe to eat? I assume it must be given it can still be used as bakers honey...

Overheated honey options & warming cabinet thermostat

Forgot to say I'm not interested in making mead - can't stand the stuff.

Overheated honey options & warming cabinet thermostat

Hi, Had a bit of a disaster over the weekend - I normally warm my honey at 47C (air temperature) for 24 - 36 hours before final filtering & bottling to ensure it's fully liquid and any granulation crystals have dissolved. I check it regularly and give the honey a stir during the day but...

    Heather honey

I will be interested in hearing how you get on with this. I get a little heather honey but not enough to warrant spending large sums on expensive kit and this looks ideal.

Selling honey through a local shop.

I sell to shops at £5 / jar for 12oz jars (or £5.50 for heather honey) - and they mark it up to between £7.50 and £8.50 (so at least a 50% mark up).

    Oz Armour Suits

Tried out my new Oz Amour suit for the first time yesterday - what a joy to wear just shorts & tee shirt underneath. Not a breath of wind though so still soaked in sweat - but then I was soaked just walking round in shorts & tee before I put the suit on. Got one very brief wiff of a breeze at...

    Number of frames for super?

Personally I use both Hoffmans & Manleys - and much prefer Manleys - although I tend to use 8 or 9 Manleys and 1 or 2 Hoffmans in a super to give a little space free to lever the Manleys apart rather than jam 10 in.
