Warmimg crystallized honey at 35 degrees

Does anyone have experience warming crystallized honey at only 35 degrees (to keep it kind of raw), how many days are required? Bucket of 10kg has been sitting in my warming cabinet for 2 days, the honey is much more runny but you can still feel small grains. Sent from my SM-J710F using Tapatalk

This year summer crop, any good?

Is this going to be a rubbish year? I did well in Spring, but so far not much nectar coming in compared to May. What about you guys? And from what I read on the forum, around mid july, main nectar flow will be finished. (not talking about heather or ivy, but proper summer flow) Sent from my...

    Swarm control, "mini nuc method"

Hi, I have removed the queen from a hive who intended to swarm (and put her in a mini nuc), destroyed all the queen cells, then 10 days later destroyed all the emergency queen cells. No eggs nor larvae left in this hive. I was wondering if I could reintroduce the queen (It would be 15 days since...

    Combining 2 queenless colonies

I have combined queenless and queenright colonies, but is it possible to unite 2 queenless colonies? Does the fact that there is no queen make a difference with the uniting process. A mated queen would be introduced later on. Sent from my SM-J710F using Tapatalk

Where to buy imported Buckfast Queen

Hi which European supplier would you recommend to buy F0 Buckfast Queen from (island mated or inseminated), I would like then to rear F1 queens from her to requeen all my colonies. I read on a post that B+ said he paid around £70 for island mated queens, everything I found is around €150. (Keld...

    Demaree method

Hi everyone I did my 1st demaree yesterday and I have put in the new box the frame which the Queen was on but its a frame of BIAS. I have added 3 drawn empty frames (only had these 3), and the rest is foundation. Should I go back in there tomorrow and swap the frame of BIAS for 2 frames of...

Bottom brood box full of pollen

This hive is from an AS, they are on 22 frames (2 brood boxes), the queen got mated and started to lay on the 18/06, the top box has 8 frames of capped brood, 1 or 2 frames with eggs and bias. The lower box is 70% full of pollen and about 30% nectar & capped honey, no brood at all. I have added...

Blunder, did I kill the queen?

One of my nuc which I made looked slightly weak, recently got a mated queen out of it, but I wanted to add a bit of number to it, so I took a frame full of brood from 1 of my strong hives with nurse bees on it and put it in the nuc (making sure the queen was not on it). I heavily smoked the nuc...

    Brood frames management

I have 1 hive with the lower brood box containing 7 capped brood frames, 1 open brood plus 2 partially drawn out, top box has 2 capped brood frames and 2 openbrood frames and rest is being drawn out. I noticed about 5 playcups overall, drone brood, slight backfilling and a very good number of...

    Swarm, split and queen cells

I have got a hive on double bb, full of bees and brood. Yesterday I removed capped and uncapped queen cells to give me some more time (panic mode as one of my other hives was swarming in front of me), and I checked this morning, they have made new queen cups . I eventually found the queen and...

Queen right but no signs of brood

Hi everyone, I have got 1 nuc where the bees are not flying, though my 3 other ones are bringing loads of pollen in, lot of activity. I always found that the bees from this nuc were a bit tasty, so I thought that they could be queenless. Today nice weather, blue sky and nice warm sun, decided...

Using a super as an eke for Fondant

Hi I have just applied some fondant on the top bars of one of my colony (1 brood box polyhive), and I have used a super as an eke, I found that it's a bit too high and that there is to much empty space now. I have insulation on top of the crown board. Please let me know what you think, and if i...

    Dummy board and nuc

Hi I have got a 14x12 poly nuc box with a mated queen and bees on 1 and a half frame (split), they are successfully raising some brood on 1 frame (some capped and some at all stages). They have got honey and plenty of pollen plus I'm feeding them. Just wondering what is best for them, leaving...

    Blunder while marking the queen

Hi everyone, The marking of one of my virgin queens went wrong, when I applied the pen on her, too much paint came out at once, I have attached a picture, it looks like she's got a little bit on one of her eyes, do you think she'll be able to fly and mate? [emoji20] Envoyé de mon SM-J710F...

    Split without using brood frames

Hello everyone is it possible to make a split without any frames of brood, just shaking nurse bees in a 6 frames nuc and one day later introducing a mated queen. The frames I would use would be mainly honey and some foundationless frames. The reason for it is that I want to start to work with...

    Queenless hive for months

Hi everyone, this is a weird one, I have one hive where the queen died in September 2016, they tried to raise one as I remember seeing a queen cup with egg and royal jelly, then I guess they failed as it was too late. I did an inspection last weekend and there is nothing in this hive except for...
