    New Beehaus

Hi Clive I had exactly the same issue when I started as I ordered my bees before I had decided what hive to get, but the upside down shoe box worked a treat for me under the frames until I had enough confidence to do anything about it. It took them a while to start to pay any attention to the...

    Oxalic acid treatment sublimation method

Any beehaus users used/planning to use this method for their winter varroa treatment? If so how do you create enough of a seal?

Probably best to contact the local beekeeping association. Not sure which division covers east dean.

Problem with wax tearing when separating frames

Thanks, built the frames myself and as far as I can tell the foundation was straight, it seems to be the tops that its happening where the stores are, don't want to open again to photograph but sounds like I will have to to remove the damaged frames, definitely working systematically through the...

Problem with wax tearing when separating frames

Hi everyone I'm having a recent problem that I've not encountered before which is when separating frames for inspection chunks are being torn out when I prise the frames apart for inspection. I now have a couple of frames with holes right through! I use self spacing frames and am always sure to...

    Laying space

Hi all I have 2 hives with newly hatched unmated queens and after inspection yesterday I noticed that most of the brood frames are at least half covered with stores 14x 12 frames(capped and uncapped honey and pollen. My question is: once the queens are mated and laying will the workers move the...

    Golden Rules Of Beekeeping

The smell of banana is similar to the alarm pheromone and can cause bees to react with alarm! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Don't eat banana before opening your hive or around you bees!

    National or national jumbo

you could try putting a shoebox under the frames to stop the bees from building wild comb while you get them onto jumbo frames or buy the frame extension kit from a supplier? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

    Beehaus

Perhaps retain value is the wrong phrase, but I'd surely get more back than selling used polys which might be trickier to clean? I think a loss of just £200 on starting up a new hobby is certainly something I could swallow.

    Beehaus

My local supplier sells complete Jumbo Polys with frames for £201 currently so yes you can buy two for less than the Beehaus, but do they retain any resale value which for a beginner like me remained s factor to consider in case it all went horribly wrong! This might not be a concern for others...

    Beehaus

I have a beehaus and made the decision to get one as my first hive having looked at all the options. My decision making was based on: the resale value(pretty good if it doesn't work out for me to continue beekeeping) Potential to expand into 2 colonies in 1 hive (somewhat justified the cost...
