    Honey price 2024

I'd check with them first. I bought some large Pooh Bear style honey jars that were the equivalent of 2 normal jars plus a bit more. No-one bought them although lots bought multiple 340g jars just for their own consumption, despite the large jars being better value for money.

God I love growing our own

I use horse bran. Put a generous ring round newly planted seedlings. Slugs love it and seem to eat it in preference. If I'm feeling really keen, I go out after dark and there are gangs of slugs eating the bran which I can pick off and dispose of, but TBH I rarely bother as I am a lark not an...

God I love growing our own

This is what I based it on: I decided to keep it simple and within my ability range as I'd be much more likely to get it done, and portable as I don't want it sat out in the North Wales weather as it will either rot and/or get blown away. Not bothered about a motor as that requires electricity...

God I love growing our own

Made a trommel to sieve soil using a couple of old bike rims, some casters, welded mesh and scrap wood. So much quicker than a hand sieve and seems to do ok with wet soil.

My son has grown watermelon for the past 2 years with some success. Seeds form Lidl for 29p. Watermelons are small and don't always have much red flesh but are juicy and tasty.

    Frame spacers

C Wynne Jones still sell the hoffman converter clips. They were selling them yesterday at the WBKA show for £3.50 a bag but they are £8.50 /100 on their website. I just tack a piece of rounded wooden beading on each side and that seems to work. I like the idea of the uphostery tacks. Much less...

God I love growing our own

Digging massive holes, eating the peppers before they are red or even just taking a few chomps out of them then leaving them on the ground. I live in the countryside so it's impossible to get rid of them. I just don't want them in my greenhouse or my raised beds where they have eaten everything...

God I love growing our own

The war on rats continues. Poison and traps and all kinds of youtube ideas haven't worked, so I have lined the greenhouse with wire mesh. I've spent the last few days moving soil from one side to the other and back, with the help of my 88 year old Dad. If this doesn't work, we'll have to get a...

    Thickness of homemade foundation

That's the video I used, but still comes out brittle. Might give the moulds a go.

Where do you buy your seeds?

I grow tomatoes in the greenhouse but I plant everything into the ground. I think if you have pots you have to get the watering and feeding just right. I'm not too disciplined about watering so decided on planting in the ground and it works better than friends who have pots. Got good crops of...

    Thickness of homemade foundation

What mould did you use? Have thought of having a go with a mould for a while now. I've made flat sheets using a piece of wood as a former, but the sheets cool to a brittle, unusable sheet that crack and break too easily.

Where do you buy your seeds?

For cheap seeds I use SeedMegastore - they sell small packets for 29p. Some always geminate and there's always more than you need. I buy them so I can try several different varieties. Also SeedParade - if you sign up they tell you when they are having one of their regular sales. And Lidl - been...

What did you do in the 'workshop' today

Made a hive floor out of scrap wood and scrap aluminium - more equipment for me, less junk in the workshop.
